Updated Version:
A few of you have made lists of what you thought you might do if you suddenly had $1 million at your disposal. Seemed like a fun thing to do/think through, so here goes.
1) Pay off the mortgage on our house. The bank wouldn't own it anymore!!! I think I would stay in my current residence and just fix all the things about it that I don't like. The renovations would include a new master bedroom and a two car garage. Other renovations would include someone to landscape my yard just as I'm envisioning it in a manner that would require little to no upkeep on my part, but still look beautiful. I still want to do my own garden. How weird is that? This new amazing landscaping would include a large three-tier outdoor water fountain. Oh and the master bathroom would include a jacuzzi bathtub like this, large walk-in shower and double sinks.
2) Pay off and sell our current vehicle and replace with a Lexus 300RX. Buy a second vehicle (think Jeep Wrangler) so we don't have to fight over who takes it when and where (not that we fight about it now, but it WOULD be more convenient). Having two vehicles with NO car payments? How great would that be? Oh and let's not forget the matching motorcycles we'd own. Yes, I would get my motorcycle license in a heartbeat!
3) Funds put away for the kids to get a good college education. I think I'd still make them work to pay for their own vehicles if they wanted them. I just think kids appreciate things more when they have to make their own way sometimes.
4) Invest and give. Not sure how or what, but it does seem the happiest people are those that don't keep everything for themselves. I know this varies from my original version, but I can change my mind if I want to.
5) Pay money to publish and market my own books - fiction, non-fiction and children's books.
6) Build, decorate, and hire experienced professionals to manage and establish a Lebanese restaurant we would own.
7) New wardrobe - at all levels: casual, dress up, work out. These yoga pants would be mine! And lots and lots and lots of new boots. I heart clothes. But then... you already knew that.
8) Pedicure, manicure, facial and massage once a week. I would LIVE at our local spa.
9) A steady supply of fresh, real rose petals to float in my bathtub.
10) Fresh cut flowers delivered once a week for my countertop.
11) Professional photos taken of my kids and our family once a year. And a fancy schmancy camera of my own to play with.
12) Vacations to someplace exotic and warm at least two times a year. Own a beach house somewhere for summer vacations. Be able to travel anywhere in the world at a moment's notice - with kids.
13) Something to tighten up my loose skin from pregnancy. Great visual, huh? I know you wanted to know that.
14) A maid.
15) A chef to cook for us.
16) A personal trainer.
If I think of any other "have to have" things I need to add to my list, I'll let you know. How would YOU spend your $1 million? It's not as easy to decide as it looks. Personally, just give me enough money to pay off our house, make certain home renovations and pay off our vehicle, and I think I'd be happier. It's obviously not money that makes people happy, but I'd be lieing if I didn't admit it would definitely take some pressure off.

i agree with the resting easier with no mortgage part. also, i looove that bathroom. is it pottery barn?
you know, i think you'd need more than a million for all of this!! a million really doesn't go that far anymore! i love the bathroom too. i'm sure it doesn't have stray ants like ours!
Hmmm, let's see...own house and 2 cars free and clear, money for 2 college educations....nice vacations, big remodel jobs, that about sums up my million dollar dreams too! Although I agree that it wouldn't go that far nowadays! I've been lurking for a while...love your blog- Nikki
@jana - We're there, baby! ;)
@mindy - Yeah... the bathroom is in the Pottery Barn bath catalogs. I tore out the page and SOMEDAY I will have a bathroom like that! ;)
@shannon - I know... I thought of that so I tried to prioritize, although I'm thinking my new wardrobe would take precedence over owning a Lebanese restaurant. I just figure if we had a lot of success with some of the business endeavors, we could make the $1 million stretch farther. ;)
@Nikki - Hey there, girl. I'm assuming you are Nikki D. Am I right? Thanks for leaving a comment. It's so fun to hear from you. Hope the kids and hubby are doing well. How's it going with the new baby? Well, not really new anymore, but newer. ;)
